January 6, 2019: Eagles 16 - Bears 15
In dramatic fashion the 2019 Eagles pulled out a close one in the Wildcard round of the playoffs. On a frigid winter day in the Windy City, Nick Foles lead his team against the best defense in the NFL.
It was defensive gave throughout with neither team being able to hold a comfortable lead. Then late in the 3rd quarter Foles found rookie Dallas Goedert in the back of the end zone to take a 10-6 lead. Every Philly fan was just hoping the defense could bend but not break for just one more quarter. The Bears did come back and take a 15-10 lead late in the fourth. The entire city of Philadelphia was hoping that St. Nick could prove everyone wrong and win the game.
As if it was scripted in a movie Foles lead them down the field and got them down to the 2 yard line. It was 4th and goal, freezing field in Chicago, season on the line, the perfect time for St. Nick to strike. He rolled out to his right and threw a beautiful sidearm pass to Golden Tate to take the lead. Up 16-15 all Philadelphia had to do was on to the lead for last 56 seconds. The defense let Chicago drive down to their 43 yard line, it was up to Cody Parkey to win the game for the Bears. As soon as he kicked it the ball drifted to the left, all of Philly held their breath watching the ball hoping the season wouldn't end like this. It hit off the left upright, hit the crossbar and bounced out. THE DOUBLE DOINK! EAGLES WIN! They live to fight another day.
The Aftermath
Sadly the run would come to an end in New Orleans the next week. Starting off strong the Birds jumped to an early lead on the heavily favored Saints. It looked as if they were going to run away with it until Foles through a tragic interception and never looked back. Down 20-14 in the final minutes again it looked as if St. Nick would defy the odds again. With the Eagles driving it looked more and more possible. Just before the 2 minute warning Foles dropped back and hit an open Alshon Jefferey, the ball went right through his hands and straight into the hands of Marcus Lattimore and just like the season was over. The era of Nick Foles in Eagles Green was done.
